William A. Fusco, class of 1962, will be the 2016 Alumnus of the Year. He is the co-founder and director of the Dynamic Youth Community - one of the most successful drug treatment centers in New York State - that has given thousands of troubled youth, ages 16 - 24, a solid self-earned chance for a happy and rewarding life. In addition, Bill remains an advocate to those in need of treatment by serving on various government and professional coalitions, panels and committees such as the Coalition for Community Services, Therapeutic Communities Association of New York, and the NYS Association of Substance Abuse Providers. Our Honorary Alumnus will be Sister Margaret Rose Smyth, OP an educator and activist since 1963. While teaching in Crown Heights and living in the Dominican Convent across the street from Brooklyn Prep, she worked with poor Black, Hispanic and Hasidic peoples. Today as the Director of the North Fork Spanish Apostolate, Sister Margaret provides comprehensive services to the Hispanic community on issues of health care, education, employment, housing and immigration. A new challenge has been finding homes for Central American children who have fled the violence of their homes in Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala. In 2013, she received a "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the Suffolk County Commission of Human Rights. Please CLICK here for additional information.

We are delighted to pay tribute to both William A. Fusco and Sister Margaret Rose Smyth, OP.
