The Brooklyn Prep Alumni Association has now been in our new office for just over two years. As you know, the office was formerly located in Loyola-Faber Hall on the campus of Fordham University. Thanks to the kindness of Fordham, the university has located us in one of the university buildings right off the campus on Hughes Ave.
Since we moved, we now have some room to display some BP memorabilia. On the wall at the entrance we have a framed banner of the 1947 Undefeated Football Team. Next to this is an original copy of the Sports Page from the Brooklyn Eagle which features the Football Team of the 1913 Season. This was a gift of Dr. Thomas I. Hayes ’60 our Alumnus of the Year 2013.

Over the years we had stored many BP memorabilia at Xavier High School on 16th St. We were able to clean some of that material out thanks to the hard work of our President, Andy Lukas. Among the many items that were moved was the ceramic seal of the school.  The seal was attached to the wall at the main entrance of the school at 1150 Carroll St. The seal was in poor condition and needed to be restored. We have had this done and the seal now hangs in the front room of our offices.

Recently through the kind gift of Mrs. Rana Darcy, the widow of Robert Darcy ’50, we received the original stained glass window picturing St Ignatius Loyola which was in the school chapel next to the Student Counsellor’s office. Again this piece also needed restoring. We have had that done and the stained glass window will soon hang in the window of the front room of our offices. Mrs. Darcy reports that this window was a gift to Robert Darcy from his aunt, Dr. Natalie Darcy, a professor at Brooklyn College and Fordham University. Dr Darcy purchased the window at an auction held at the time of the school’s closing.

St. Ignatius

If you are near Fordham University anytime, you are welcome to come over to the office and see these memorabilia in person. Just give a call or email ahead of time. The address is 2540 Hughes Ave. 718 – 817 – 5669.
