McLAUGHLIN--Judge Joseph. Judge Joseph M. McLaughlin, of Jamaica Estates, NY, on August 8, 2013. Beloved husband to Frances E. Lynch, devoted father to Mary Jo Clines, Joseph, Matthew and Andrew, grandfather to Joseph, Terence and Kira Clines, Kate, Patrick, Emmett, Paul, Joseph, Elizabeth, Aidan, Nolan, Eva and Jillian McLaughlin. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he received an A.B. from Fordham College in 1954, and was a Captain in the United States Army Corps of Engineers from 1955 to 1957. He then received a LL.B. from Fordham University School of Law in 1959, and an LL.M. from New York University School of Law in 1964. He was in private practice of law in New York City from 1959 to 1961. He worked as a law professor at Fordham University School of Law in Manhattan from 1961 to 1971. In 1971, McLaughlin became Dean of Fordham Law School, a position he held for ten years. He served as Chairman of the New York Law Revision Commission from 1975 to 1982. In 1981, he was nominated by President Ronald Reagan to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. In 1990, President George H. W. Bush nominated Judge McLaughlin to the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He served in this capacity until 2013. In addition to serving as a Judge, he was an adjunct Professor of Law at St. John's University School of Law and Fordham University School of Law. His publications include numerous works on the law of evidence and civil procedure. Friends may call at Frank. E. The funeral will be held at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, 980 Park Avenue at 10am on Monday.
